Beatriz de Bobadilla

Beatriz, also known as Marquesa de Moya, was born around 1440 in Medina del Campo and died on 17 January 1511. She was Isabel’s closest friend. She was the daughter of Pedro de Bobadilla, administrator of the Castillo de Maqueda and the Alcázar of Segovia, and of Isabel Gonzalez Maldonado.

She married Andrés Cabrera, with whom she had nine children. Beatriz and Andrés received the marquisate of Moya and the lordship of Chinchón in 1480, as a reward for their loyalty to Isabel during the War of Succession.

During the War of Granada, during the siege of Málaga, Beatriz was stabbed by an enemy who mistook her for Isabel.

After Isabel’s death and Fernando’s departure from Castile, Beatrice and André left the court and handed over the Alcázar of Segovia to Señor de Belmonte, a trusted associate in the service of Felipe el Hermoso (Philip the Handsome). Although Fernando returned as regent (for Juana), Beatriz and Andrés, due to their advanced age, did not return to court.
