Madrigal de las Altas Torres

Madrigal de las Altas Torres is the birthplace of Isabel la Católica, a town in the north of the province of Ávila. Isabel was born on 22 April 1451 at a quarter to five in the afternoon in the Palacio de San Juan. Today it is a monastery — the Monasterio Nuestra Señora de Gracia — and it is open to visitors daily. In the square behind the monastery stands a large statue of Isabel.

She was baptized in the Iglesia de San Nicolás de Bari in Madrigal, where the baptismal font can still be seen. The font has been well preserved and stands as an impressive piece of history for visitors to admire.

Madrigal de las Altas Torres has a medieval character, with well-preserved walls and buildings that offer a sense of what life was like in the time of Isabel.
